The Lungau Biosphere Reserve is located at over 1.000m above sea level and, with its snow-covered mountains, is a true paradise for winter sports enthusiasts: the Großeck-Speiereck ski area is in Mauterndorf and the well-known ski areas of Obertauern, Fanningberg and Aineck - Katschberg are just a few minutes away. Tobogganing, cross-country skiing, ski tours, winter hikes or a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride are other activities to enjoy the winter.
