Mauterndorf Castle is a fascinating historical landmark that towers high above the picturesque town of Mauterndorf in Lungau. The castle dates back to the 13th century and impresses with its well-preserved and impressive architecture. In the castle you can explore the various rooms and exhibitions, which give you an insight into the medieval life and history of the region. A highlight is the annual medieval festival, where showmen and medieval enthusiasts from near and far meet.

With the nostalgic railway 'Taurachbahn' you travel on a steam train from Mauterndorf through the Lungau.
